Cheapside is English and the man who named it Doctor E.R. Henry was of English descent. He named it after his hometown of Cheapside, Virginia. Cheapside's economy was based mainly on agriculture, cotton, as well as poultry, livestock and grain. Cheapside had three grocery and general stores, a drugstore, a broom factory, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
